From seed to wooden house

For sustainable social development

It is easy to think that concepts such as sustainability and future-proof construction are entirely based on the climate issue. But for us at Martinsons, it's about creating a whole.

We want to contribute to sustainable social development and a vibrant countryside. We have been doing this since the company was founded over 65 years ago.

In many ways, that role is even more important today, as the effects of climate change become increasingly apparent.

This includes counteracting climate change by creating conditions for increased use of wood from sustainable forests. But also about taking social responsibility and taking initiatives that develop life in our region.

Areas where we can make a difference

Sustainability is about balancing economic, environmental and social perspectives. Here are four areas where we, together with Holmen, have a great opportunity to make a difference.

We grow houses, we cultivate change

The value chain for Martinson's large-scale wood construction runs all the way from seed to wooden houses, from the trees that grow in the sustainably managed forests to the high-tech sawmills that are the hub of Holmen's circular business.

This is where the wood is split and the processing of the renewable raw material from the forest begins. At Martinsons, we produce customized solutions from the timber in CLT and glulam.

Holmen also produces energy from wind and water on its own land, and  growing forests bind carbon and our products that replace fossil materials and energy sources. When we grow houses, we also cultivate change.

We do the greatest benefit for the climate together with our customers when they choose our renewable products and energy sources, instead of fossil-based alternatives.

The climate issue drives demand

The real estate sector accounts for one third
carbon dioxide emissions in Europe and
property developers, architects and
Construction companies have high ambitions to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings. Wood as
building materials benefit from the ongoing
Transition and development expected
contribute to increased demand for timber products, in
especially when concrete and steel start to
bear its true climate cost.

Certifications

Holmen's production facilities that produce glulam and CLT for our frame systems are certified in accordance with ISO 14001. In addition, several of the products are CE certified and the sawmills have drying facilities that are KD-certified by the Swedish Board of Agriculture. Through Holmen, we also have the opportunity to supply glulam and CLT frame systems that are certified.
