The assembly of the new multi-purpose arena in Gällivare, which has recently been named Glöden, is now in full swing. The project is one of Martinson's largest projects to date and is surpassed only by Sara Kulturhus in Skellefteå.

A total of approximately 3,200 m³ of glulam and 1,800 m³ of CLT will be delivered and installed within the framework of the project, which is being carried out in close collaboration between Gällivare Municipality and the execution contractor SSEA.

Jonas Lindgren, Key Account Manager at Martinsons, has been involved in the project since the idea stage:

"This is a prestigious assignment and we are proud to be part of the development in Gällivare. The multi-arena shows the possibilities that exist with modern wood construction and how wood can be used in large, technically advanced buildings with high demands on function, sustainability and architecture," says Jonas.

An important milestone was reached in Week 18 when the assembly of the glulam and cross-laminated timber (CLT) frame for Building 1, the Kulturhuset, began. Five construction workers from Martinsons are currently on site assembling the frame.

For Martinson's part, the project is led by Jonas Kronoström and Ida Gripenrot. An important success factor in the project is Martinson's internal design organization. With around 20 in-house designers, it is possible to quickly mobilise the right expertise and ensure close cooperation between design, manufacturing and assembly throughout the project.

"The in-house expertise means that we can make quick decisions, solve technical challenges early and ensure that all parts of the project are coordinated in an efficient way. This is a great advantage in a project of this size and complexity," says Jonas Kronoström.

During the autumn, work will continue when the next stage of the project is to be assembled.

"Since the facility consists of several buildings that together will form a coherent whole, the project can actually be seen as several projects in one. Each building element has its own conditions, functions and technical challenges, while everything must be coordinated and function as a unit," says Jonas.

When the multi-purpose arena is completed, it will bring together culture, sports, leisure and knowledge under one roof. The facility will be a new meeting place in Gällivare for both residents and visitors and will house a number of different activities. Among other things, a cultural centre with a cinema, a water park, a sports hall with a swimming pool, a skateboard park, a bowling alley and a library are planned.
